Dillards Sale

Who else runs to the mall instead of packs for a retreat? Dillards has everything 50-75% off with an additional 40% off of that. So, run! I found absolutely nothing for me. I saw really cute coats and jackets but I don't need anymore of those.

We are going to a wedding in two weeks that is at the Grand Hotel in Pointe Clear, AL. For those who do not know, it is across the bay from Mobile and is a hotel built at the turn of the century on the water. It is all fancy smancy to get married there. Like Country Club people. I have looked through her registries trying to get a feel for her colors and style and she had some linen pillows in the green above. I found this frame for $3.00 so I might give it to her in a mix of other items.

I got this frame for my turquoise half bath. I needed something to hang over the towel bar. The rug under it is the bath mat. See how well it matches? The frame is a light green blue and the walls are bright blue turquoise so it coordinates well.

I got the boys a sport coat for $8! and the pants were $6.

Ralph Lauren shorts for $11

Ralph Lauren shirt $10 and the sweater was $60 on sale for $18. They are small, though so I am going to take the sweaters back. They are really tight and then the sleeves are too long so they just do not fit right and it wouldn't work to just buy a larger size. Okay, I have got to go pack and get out the door. I am taking someone with me and can't be late.

I'm leavin'

Aw! Mac is going to miss me. Look at Cait's new haircut. It is really cute on her, but she would not cooperate for a good photo.
Better smile. I LOVE it!

Well, tomorrow I will be leavin and going on a Womens Retreat. I won't be here to defend myself so don't leave me any mean comments. I am so ready to get away. I have not shopped the deals in TWO whole weeks because I have just been burned out. I have just run to Walmart of sent a kid to get fill in items- love having two drivers. Have a great weekend everybody!

Awards

I have had two awards given to me in the last few days. I want to thank Michelle and Marva for thinking of me and honoring me with sending it my way. I am always so amazed at the friendships made through blogging and truly appreciate just having you both as friends. Be sure to check out these ladies. Michelle at Somerset Cottage gave me this Love Ya Blog Award.
Marva at Blessed Frugalness Times Two With Twins gave me this Thinker Award.

Anthropolification Boyer Cream Cardi GIVEAWAY!!!! GIVEAWAY!!!!
Okay, I am now entering a new era in my mind. After seeing this post and how she made a copy of an Anthropology sweater for $6 I will forever be looking at clothes in a different way. I do it with decor items and am ruined from ever purchasing something from a real store. Now, will I try to make all my clothes also?

His Timing

I am leading the Esther Bible study at our church and enjoying this study so much. A big part of this study has been God's timing in our lives. I am just so excited each time I can look upon my life and see how God timed events because he was either working something good or preventing something bad. He has done so much in my life that I am beginning to be able to wait upon Him with an excited expectation knowing that when He finally brings it all together it will be worth the pain or wait.

I have mentioned before that in high school I was in an accounting class and a lady came to the door and asked the teacher who would be good to work in a pediatric dentist office. My teacher chose me out of the whole class. Was it because I was the best student? No. Was it because I was outgoing and stood out? No, I was quiet and was probably the least likely person to be noticed. I know without a doubt it was because God stirred my teacher's heart. He had a plan and a purpose. I got the job and began training as a dental assistant. I worked after lunch my Junior and Senior year and full time the summer between. I then was working full time after graduation and two short months later is when my mom died. She left $7000 to me in insurance and then later we sold the house and I made $13,000, so I was not given a lot of money. God had provided a way for me to take care of myself financially.

Another huge event was when we moved to Niceville we couldn't afford a home there. So, we rented two years. We did not make a lot of money so we just weren't able to save a down payment for a house. Our church went through a building program and we went way above what we could afford to give and gave what was a large amount to us at the time. In giving, we knew that this was money that would pay closing on a VA mortgage and that it made our ability to buy a home, if we found one, out of reach. Until God showed up, that is. We both felt led to give it and did so. Darryl's mom called and told us that since she was remarried she wanted to give us part of our inheritance now. It wasn't huge but it was double what we gave to the church. About a week later we found some land (10 acres) that we desired to purchase and build a home on. We put a down payment on the land and my dad came to look at it. When we left he handed us a check and said that they wanted us to have it. Overall we were given four times above what we gave. It was the most amazing thing to see how we thought we were helping by giving to our church and God showered us and gave it right back and multiplied it. He wanted us to learn not to hold onto money, but to trust that He will provide for us.

In Niceville, Darryl moved from missile testing to IT support. A total career change. A month or two later every single one of his group in missile testing was laid off. God was faithful to care for us and provide once again by going before us to put us in a place of protection. He was able to get all the Microsoft certifications that cost over $5000 when normally they only allowed $2000 in tuition reimbursement a year. God opened that door. He brought us to Huntsville and provided a job he absolutely loves. He has moved him into a career that is no longer dependant upon the military(missile defense) but it can be taken outside of government contracts if we should ever need to do that.

When we moved to Alabama and went through 15 months of double house payments and had to feed all seven of us on $300 a month to get by He was faithful again. Over and over and over He has proven His faithfulness, His care, His plan that is set before us. We are poster children of how when God is for you He will lay a straight path before you to bring about His purpose in your life. In each event above at the time we were going through the time we did not see what God was doing. We had to just trust His word and remember He loved us and would care for us.

I would love to hear your stories of how you have seen Him plan events in your lives. How you could look back and see Him. So many times we do not see His hand at work. We feel like He has abandoned us. We pray and seek something and feel as if He just isn't listening. We are brought to the utter depth of what we can endure emotionally or physically as we wait and endure. But, in the midst He is there, and He is faithful to work all things out for good. It may not look like what you thought it should- you may lose a loved one, or you may go through a job loss, or you may endure a sickness, but God has a purpose and is working behind the scenes in ways we cannot ever imagine.

In Esther, Mordecai tells Esther that, who knows, but that she was put in position of queen for such a time as this(to save the Jews from being killed.) She had to risk being killed to go before the king to plead for her people. But, God did not abandon her and leave it to her to fight herself, he worked in the night to change the whole coarse of events while Esther either slept or sat in her room and worried. I wish we had more of a glimpse of Esther during the time when she finds out the next morning what had transpired during the night. When she sees that God did not leave her to battle alone, that he was her shield and her sword. She had to stand in boldness and faith before the king. She had to summons the courage to risk death. There was a part for her to do, but God made sure that she knew that He was at work and was fighting this battle.

We feel the battle. We sometimes are called to risk a lot. Sometimes we wonder if we will be left alone to do it all ourselves. But, God is working in ways that we cannot see. He is waiting for the perfect time to show up and work it all out. So many times it is ever so much more that we ever could have imagined. He seems to pour it out in such a proportion that we cannot contain the joy and relief He gives. He gives so much more abundantly and such better gifts than we expect. If we will wait. If we do not demand to have it our way and in our timing. Wait, so that you can taste and see that He is good.

Menu plan monday 2/23/09

Sunday- asian shrimp and chicken, rice, green beans
Monday- Spaghetti and meatballs (used a bag of meatballs that I had), garlic bread
Tuesday- Dales sauce on pork chops, squash, peas
Wednesday- chicken pot pie
Thursday- green bean/tater tot casserole
Friday- bbq chops, corn, green beans
Saturday- My husband will surprise me when I come home from the womens retreat with a special meal- steak and potatoes would be really good (hint, hint) or you could take me out to eat - please do not get pizza.
I was number 449 to link to Menu Monday so, goodness gracious, you ought to be able to find some good menus and recipes there.

Asian Shrimp

I used the remaining bottle of Lowreys marinade on a pound of shrimp. It was too cold to stand outside and grill so I covered the shrimp with the sauce and put on a cookie sheet and baked at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. I turned the oven off and left them in waiting on Darryl to get home so they got a little tough. So, make sure to remove from heat as soon as they are cooked. I want to try this reciped skewered and grilled so they can cook quicker and let the sauce sear to the shrimp. This is so good with rice and then it would also be good on a green salad. Enjoy!

My necklace set

I forgot about this set I got at Goodies- for $7.00. It will look cute with a red Amy Butler print skirt.

New Jacket

Goodies is going out of business so we ran in on Saturday. I found this jacket that was $40 on sale for $8.00. It looks more royal blue in the photo but it is really teal. I also found some size 1 Duck Head shorts and jeans for my daughter, they were on sale for around $10 but were originally $40. It is so hard to find anything that I like and anything to fit little Miss Size 1 so I was happy to find some things.

My Valentine flowers

My husband gave me this bouquet of flowers on Valentines Day. They smell wonderful and are beautiful. This morning I noticed they are opened a lot more. Are they poppies? Can I plant the bulbs for future flowers? They match my picture on the wall. I could plant them and have a field of poppies are whatever they are. I could pretend I am in the Italian countryside since no one will take me for real life.

They make you Happy!!!!

Asian Chicken Marinade

I got this marinade a while back free after double coupons. I have let it sit in the pantry scared to try it. Well, I am going through my pantry and trying to use what we have and decided to finally try this marinade on chicken. I didn't take photos because I didn't know I would tell you about it. Everyone in my family liked it. Did you hear that? Seven out of seven. Just thought I would let you know, in case you want a quick meal idea.

I put boneless breasts in a 9x13 baking pan and poured the marinade over it and then made sure it was on both sides. I let it sit for about 25 minutes. I then baked the chicken at 425 degrees until it was done. At about 15 minutes I spooned the sauce in the pan on top of the chicken and continued to do this about every 10 minutes until done.

Getting back on schedule

I used to be able to get up and spend 30 minutes to an hour doing a sweep through of my house and have it clean first thing. Then, I could go on about our day home schooling or crafting or doing whatever we wanted. I didn't have to worry about anyone stopping by because it had been picked up and wiped and the most mess would be a few toys that I could throw in a wicker basket that I kept in the corner of the family room. I don't know what has happened but it is a mixture of being tired and lazy. I have let my day get by while I am checking the computer and not staying on top of the kids to make sure they are getting their chores done and not holding each other in a headlock in their room.

I have a good system that works for us. It sounds like more than it is, but remember that the work is divided by four.

Daily:
After taking a shower wipe counter/sink/faucet and toilet. Hang towels. Pick up laundry and throw in the hall. Make bed. Pick up room. Take laundry down and start a load. Take down things to fold from drying rack or dryer. Fold laundry. Have kids take piles to rooms. If there is more laundry to do it is done through-out the day.

The kids: straighten their rooms, wipe the other two baths, bring down laundry, one does dishes, one does counters, and one sweeps. The jobs rotate weekly.

Monday-
Clean my bath: sink, tub, shower, toilet, mirror. Clean kitchen: microwave, stovetop, areas you see when you open refrigerator, counters, fronts of appliances, sink. Wash Master sheets.

Tuesday-
Grocery shop and errands. Schedule Dr. appts for this day

Wednesday-
Prepare meals with bulk meat purchases. Iron all clothing. Wash boys sheets.

Thursday-
Vacuum and Dust house. Wash girls sheets.

Friday-
Clean out car. Wash rugs in kitchen and at doors.

Saturday-
Yardwork. Wash cars.

I put the kids to work on the assigned day for chores helping in different areas. If it is kitchen day one wipes the front of the cabinets, one vacuums crumbs out of drawers, one puts tupperware together- whatever is in need.

On the day when we dust I will give each one a cloth and they do a room, they vacuum upstairs and the stairs.

Other chores that the kids do are take out the trash and recycling, sweeping the porches and yardwork as needed.

I don't really have set chores for my older two to do anymore. They are at school and work so are not around as much. My son has to do most of the yardwork in season and my daughter cleans the two other bathrooms. They are my personal shoppers and chauffers for the kids now, also.

Kids Mart Time Again

It is that time again... time for Kids Mart Consignment Sale. I brought down the two rubbermaid boxes from the attic and this has been sitting in my room for a few days. Saturday Darryl and I had the boys get every pair of pants and shorts out of their rooms and try them on and weeded out the stuff that doesn't fit them right. Today I finally decided to tackle going through it to see what I can consign. I filled the one rubbermaid box with winter items. After the consignment sale our neighborhood will have a sale so I will go ahead and see if any of this will sell then. What does not sell I will save for the fall sale. I also will be buying stuff at garage sales to consign in the fall. I keep my target price at $1.00. I will not buy any khaki or denim pants because they had racks of those. The ones on hanger below are just the pants and shorts. We had 40 pair of just khaki and denim pants and shorts!
This is what I get to do tonight while they are at AWANA. Laundry....it never ends.

Homemade detergent or Tide? The battle of the detergents.

For Works For Me Wednesday I am sharing the results of the test between Tide

and homemade detergent. I made up the homemade detergent with Arm and Hammar Washing Powder, Borax and grated Zote soap.

I have been trying this detergent since December 8th.
The verdict:

I tried. I washed in warm water and was having to spray items with Shout. My husband kept complaining that his shirts had spots- he thinks from the grated soap. When they went paintballing and I washed the pants and they still had paintball powder on them it was the final straw and he told me to go get Tide. He wouldn't even wait for a sale or coupon and sent my son to buy a bottle.

So, I would love to be one of the many that use the cheaper version of homemade detergent, but it just did not work for us. I have not tried the version where you cook the ingredients, it may work better. For us... what works is Tide. I have to have the high efficiency detergent for my front loader so I stick with what has worked. It may cost more to purchase but saves rewashing or the aggrivation of not having fresh clean clothes.

For more Works for me Wednesday visit Rocks in my Dryer. This is Shannon's last week to host this event- next week We are That Family will take over. Thanks Shannon for all the work you have done and bringing us all the great tips.

Congratulations, Christy!

Christy got the part to play Golde in Fiddler on the Roof. She is an awesome singer and has a great stage presence in the things that she has done at church. I can't wait to see the production.

Master bath: before and after

If you are visiting from Metamorphasis Monday- Welcome! You can see more before and afters at Between Naps on the Porch.

Imagine... everytime you potty or bathe having millions of these looking at you. Do you see it? It is bugs ready to fly on you... very happy smiling bugs. My husband sees monkies with a headdress on but I have to really squinch my eyes for that one. Can you see both images? Whatever! It all just looks like a paper towel print on your wall. Glad the 90's are over. The people left us all their window treatments. I know I am making you all so jealous. I don't have a clue why they put the shutters only 3/4 of the way up the window. Every piece of hardware in the house looked like Medieval swords and stuff and then they had lacy and fancy curtains. The styles just don't go together.

Seashell shaped light fixture anyone?

And, the best feature of all- green carpet in the bathroom! It should be against the law to put carpet in a bathroom- that is just gross!

Now, I am so excited to show you the almost finished, but needs to be accessorized bath. We painted, took down the wall mirror and added two framed mirrors, tiled the floor, new fixtures, and I am working on curtains and getting towel bars and toilet paper holders.

Still to do- fill in the phone jack. Another weird feature.... I need a phone in the toilet room. Anyone?
We are adding this tile border in the doorway to the master bedroom and then the doorway to the closet. It is not grouted yet and the carpet is not put down.

Valentine Banquet

Our church had a Valentine Banquet and all the profits were for our building fund. So, we got dressed up and had son take out of focus photo of us..... It was a lot of fun. They had the staff play the Newlywed Game. The first question was - What is the favorite past time that you and your spouse do together.- The pastor stood there for a very long time with a face that said, "Do I answer this in front of the church?" and everyone was laughing and his wife said, "Your daughter is right there." So, he chose yardwork, but somehow, I think he had a different answer.
They drew names for different games to win prizes. This is musical chairs.

A hula hoop contest with rotten hula hoopers with a lot of personality!

Two singers, this guy is fabulous.

This is Shirley and she plays such beautiful harp music. She does weddings and events. She plays Stairway to Heaven on the harp. We missed it tonight but I really want to hear that. She told me she plays that one time and I almost spit across the room laughing. I don't know why but someone playing that on a harp is funny to me. It is supposed to be really pretty.

It was such a good fun time tonight. I got to get to know two other couples at our table that I really didn't know well- one is Shirley the harp player. We had our friends from Niceville that moved here and go to another church come. We had to tell everyone that we met at the mall. I think we need to make up a better story. Darryl told them that he told his friend after they left from meeting me that I was the girl he would marry. Twenty years of marriage and three and a half years of dating and that is the first time I have heard that. (He says he told me that before)
