Layered Pudding Dessert

This is so good and has become a staple dessert. We use pecans for the nuts in the crust. When you bake the crust it gets that toasted nut flavor and is a little crunch but at the same time soft like a crust. Then you blend the cream chesse flavor then are zapped with chocolate. It all melds in your mouth and we all end up sitting over the pan with our spoons eating additional servings straight from the pan. What?! Maw Maw takes her teeth out first!

LAYERED CHOCOLATE PUDDING DESSERT

1 c. flour
1 stick butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts- Pecans.
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar
6 oz. Cool Whip
2 sm. instant puddings (chocolate or butterscotch)- Butterscotch!? Chocolate wins.
3 c. milk

Mix flour, butter and nuts; spread in greased 8"x8" dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes; cool.
Mix together cream cheese, sugar and Cool Whip; spread on crust.
Mix pudding and milk; spread on cream cheese mixture.
Spread on remaining Cool Whip.

How do you pronounce pecans? I know people from South Carolina say pee-CAN. I say pi- con. Not Piecon- piCON with more accent on the last syllable. Everytime I hear pee-can I think of toilets.
My FIL has the most hugest pecan trees that are probable 100 years old. They are about 5 foot around- I don't know, I am guessing. Big, Big trees. They get so tired of picking up pecans they end of leaving them to rot. They gave me a couple of the really big ziploc bags- bigger than a gallon bag, already shelled last Christmas. My MIL (not married to FIL anymore) gave us a big bag of unshelled ones. I love to sit them in a bowl with the cracker thingy and come along and crack open and eat a few here and there.
I don't think we can grow pecan trees this far north. We are considered middle south. I have always lived in coastal south and there are pecan trees everywhere. I need to make up some sugared pecans for Christmas.

Don't forget to check out Frugal Upstates linky for other Thanksgiving sides. Chocolate IS TOO a side!

Not all the South Carolina hicks pronounce pecan that way. I pronounce it like you. However, my country bumpkin dad pronounces like a true South Carolinian. I mostly hear that way from older people. That dessert sounds good.
I'm going to try it.

Tami- I did NOT use the word hick! I didn't even think the word hick. I just know that different regions pronounce it differently and from peole from SC have heard it said that way. Not making fun of anyone- like to see how different areas pronounce it. If y'all are hicks, though, you don't have to use plates either, and can just eat right out of the pan like us.

I am in SC and I say pee-con and I try really hard not to drag it out! I would definitely eat it out of the pan like you. May try this recipe for Thanksgiving.

Love the fall color. Ours was really pretty last week, but we are starting to lose most of the leaves this week.

You know where I live here in north central Alabama and we have pecan trees.

The pecans are smaller than the costal ones and harder work to get to, but oh so yummy. They are a lot cheaper than going to the grocery store for too!
