Making a game/media room

This is the stairwell view from the front door. It splits at the landing and goes down to the back between the kitchen and family room. Our foyer is really large and I have felt like it is a lot of wasted space that is of a premium. Last night we rode to Lowes and the mall and while talking in the car I mentioned that I hated to have a dining room that is not used daily, that we had a big need to have an extra place for the kids to go to play video games and watch movies and hang out. I told hubbie that I had been considering if we could put our dining table and buffet in the foyer and could use it there and then turn the dining room into a media room. He was totally excited and talked about getting another flat screen tv and started planning what he could put in there to impress all his friends. So we rushed home and pulled the table into the foyer to see if it would fit. My table and buffet are antiques that belonged to my mom so I could never get rid of them. It fits! Perfectly.

Look, areal view of the foyer. Okay, you don't see my now famous bath vanity that we had to move over STILL SITTING THERE. Do you? I don't usually have all the mess around- I was pulling out all my prints to see how it looked, and my candleabra. I am going to set it up like an entry table and put the buffet where the curio and invisible vanity are in the photo.

This is my table. It has 3 leaves and will seat over 14 people when opened.

Top mirror to the buffet.

Buffet.

This dresser belonged to my great-grandmother. It used to be where the table is now. Moved it to this spot and it fits perfectly.

This is a 1900's piano made out of Tiger Oak which is so pretty. I will have to keep it in the media room. We are putting a flat screen above it to use the space well and leave wall space for a sectional and other furniture.

We had another problem in that the living room was not wired with a ceiling light and my daughter said it gets hot and she needs more light than what the table lamps produce. So, we are going to move her to the dining room and make the living room the media room. Everything is just falling into place.

We took out our bath vanity tonight so we can start working on putting flooring down for our new vanity.

Everything looks great...I especially love the table in the foyer. It looks like it fits in the space perfectly.

Media rooms are becoming so popular these days...good luck with organizing yours. Don't you love it when a plan comes together. How fun!

I love Charleston, Savannah, and Asheville. But Savannah is my first choice. We usually go there and stay on the beach at Tybee Island. (only because I love the beach). But I absolutely love the history of Savannah. If you go there, do a city tour. We have been on a couple. The haunted Pub Tour is not that great. I think it would have been better if not for these crazy people yelling and screaming the whole time. WE enjoyed the carriage tour. Also I adore Paula Deen and would definitely make her restaurant a priority.
Asheville is great too. But it is totally different. There are lots of unique shops and lots of "different" people. We only live about 40 minutes from Asheville so we go there quite a bit. My kids love Asheville. Downtown is fun and the Mellow Mushroom has great pizza. I always hit the thrift shops in Asheville. Charleston would probably be my last choice. I don't enjoy it near as much as the other two but lots of people around here go there every year. Good luck choosing. Let me know what you decide.
