Before and After of Lamp and Starfish Wall hanging

I am stealing this technique from Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. She has a post way back so I didn't find it for you, she refinished a clock with the same technique. I bought the paint at Michaels. It is Sophisticated Finishes in Blackened Bronze and then you highlight with Blonde Bronze. This is my lamp before. It is just plain. I still like the shape and lamps are awfully expensive so I am refinishing them rather than replacing them. My walls are a yellowy taupe and my couch is a brown and maroon toned tapestry. We have two leather chairs in brown, so this beige looks like it is dying in there. The shade is a leather.
The first step is to paint the Blackened Bronze over the whole surface. I used a sponge brush so I could get in all the crevices. I didn't prime, so in some areas it would smear and take the paint back off. I let it dry and then repeated over any areas that showed brush marks or were transparent.
For the second step highlight with the Blonde Bronze. I just brushed over the tops of the raised areas and wiped off anything that went on a flat surface.
Close up of detail on lamp and highlighted areas.
Finished lamp with the shade. Much better. Ready for a little more life.
I bought this for our 1/2 bath that we painted turquoise. I am adding just a few beachy items after I found this on clearance at Michaels. I also bought a fish and some shells for a bowl. Photos to come later!
The black does not go with the room so I sprayed it white. Stay tuned for photos of the bath!!!

Wow! What a beautiful transformation! Love the lamp!

I think I'm missing something in my creative genes. Once I see something I often think, "I could do that!" Maybe I'm too visual. I have trouble picturing something before it's done. Right now I'm struggling over choosing a paint color for one of my rooms! Grrr!

Beautiful lamp transformation! Isn't it amazing what a little stain will do.

I'm so glad to discover your "Southern Seven." I enjoyed reading your posts and seeing your projects, especially the letters you're working on with your daughters. What sweet memories you're creating for them, too.

I'll be back to visit again soon.

Sincerely,
Janie
