Dishwasher detergent deal

I went to Kroger and they had a display in the aisle with this detergent marked down from $10.98 to $3.49! Four of the boxes are 75 tablets and then the other two have 96 in them. So for $20.94 I got 492 washing tablets which works out to $.04 each. That is more than a year as we usually wash one load a day.

Thrift Store Finds

I got this set of dishes. I LOVE the bowls with the little handle on the sides.
A bunch of books for summer reading.

Some real new Sperrys that were at the thrift store. My daughter has been begging for some and they were on sale for $79 so I wouldn't buy them. She was so excited to find these. The leather has some scratches on them, but you could tell were from a store.

All these books were $.10 each. The Sew Beautiful is this year's Easter edition. I have about 50 when I used to have a subscription for years. I sold a lot on Ebay for $10 each, so this was a great bargain.

I really lucked up on a bunch of really cute pajama sets. They were all around $1-$2 per set.

$.50 for this plate I bought to use as a serving plate.

The wire basket and three ramikins were $.50 each. I don't even know what the canning jar cost. I paid $8 for the pressure cooker. I am scared to test it. I need to find someone who knows what it should all look like to check it out for me.

Target Sale

Target has a great sale this week! Cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soups, green beans, and corn are on sale for $.45 a can. So, I got 75 cans. I got the last three cans of cream of chicken soup and want a lot more, so I will go again later this week- or send some unsuspecting driveable daughter:) I do this every year when I find a good sale on can food- my husband just loves me(eye rolling coming from him in the background.) When I can get it in a case I put it under my bed. But this I had to put in the island cabinets. I love having rows of the same cans all lined up like a grocery shelf. Holly's Grocery.

Thrift store finds

I am joining in Thrift Store Thursday to show what items I bought at the thrift store the past couple of weeks. The first is a jacket. I think I am going to shorten the sleeves and sew in the waist a little for a tad more feminine cut. It has an attached brooch and a ruffle hem which are really cute details.
This was the first item I saw when I entered this store. It is in a horrible part of town. I was very pleasantly surprised when I went in. Isn't this so nice and preppy. Imagine a cardigan tied around your neck. Add a monogrammed scrabble tile necklace. Some preppy flip flops.

A set of really cute napkins. The Kohls wrapper was still on them. They were $.50!

A sheet for $1. It has a ruffle edge. Can you see a cute apron? I wouldn't even have to add a ruffle to the bottom. So cute! I could add an orange pocket.

More sheets and fabric for $1 each.

This store had boxes of old patterns. I picked out a few that I would really like to sew some items from. I wanted to frame the covers for my sewing nook, but the price tags won't come off without taking up the print on the pattern. Suggestions?

A Shabby Chic green striped shower curtain. I want it for the fabric, but it is in perfect condition. I about fell out when I moved a piece of fabric and saw the orange leaf of the other fabric. I quickly grabbed it and saw the birdies on it!!!! It was a jackpot piece. Can you not see a little girls twirly skirt made out of it? All the items in the next three photos I got for $3. You get what you can put in the shopping basket for $3. I also bought a black shirt that I used to make a pirate vest. It was the reason for purchasing, so I looked around for anything that I could use the fabric for sewing to add to the basket.

Three shirts that I will use the fabric in sewing projects.

A wool sweater to felt. And the pink one will be great to cut to make stuffed animals. It is cashmere-ish.

I could do multiple transactions at Walgreens to reduce my out of pocket expenses but am at the point that it is not worth the amount of time that takes. One is that to work the transactions the store has to have the items available, which they never do. So, for me, it is worth doing fewer transactions and paying more with cash. Don't let this be too much of a hastle. It took me an hour and a half from leaving home until I returned, and I talked with a lady from church in one store.

I have a friend that had knee replacement surgery and is at home getting better. I wanted to make supper for them so some of the things above are for a meal for her. I made Tater tot casserole. If it looks familiar it is Mrs. Duggar's recipe, but I have been making it forever. In fact, Mrs. Bobbie, who I am making it for, gave me the recipe when she made it for me when my 3rd child was born almost 13 years ago. I went ahead and made one for us because my husband loves it and I didn't want to hear him cry alnight. Oh, the french bread, one of the salad mixes and the frozen pie is to take to Mrs. Bobbie.

I had big plans that I couldn't fulfil. I bought 5# of ground chuck and was going to use 3# for the two tater tot casseroles and 2# to make up some hamburgers on the grill and take them a hamburger for tomorrow. I ran out of time. I also have had chicken breasts thawing all day and was going to grill a couple of breasts for them and take a bag of the salad mix so they could make chicken salad. I think I will try to do the chicken and hamburgers and take them by Wednesday before church.

I am slowly getting back to the old me. I cannot tell you all how weird I have felt- totally out of myself.

CVS 3/13/09

This is my St Patrick's Day shopping from CVS- all green.

1st Transaction: 2 Palmolive soaps $1.49 ea-$1 ECB ea= $.49 ea
OOP $3.22/ Received $2 ECB

2nd Transaction: 3 Garnier shampoo/ hairspray 3/$10
used (3) $1 Q
used $2 ECB from 1st transaction
OOP $5.64 / Received $5 ECB

I was down to $7.99 ECB that expired on Thursday. I went into the CVS by my house and they did not have the shampoo or Palmolive marked and no sales papers. I figured that I looked at the wrong week of sales online. I needed to use the ECB so I bought Easter candy that equaled $7.99 and had $0 OOP. This is the bad part of taking 3 weeks off- I am out of ECB's and feel out of the loop/off kilter/ old and washed up.

Dillards Sale

Who else runs to the mall instead of packs for a retreat? Dillards has everything 50-75% off with an additional 40% off of that. So, run! I found absolutely nothing for me. I saw really cute coats and jackets but I don't need anymore of those.

We are going to a wedding in two weeks that is at the Grand Hotel in Pointe Clear, AL. For those who do not know, it is across the bay from Mobile and is a hotel built at the turn of the century on the water. It is all fancy smancy to get married there. Like Country Club people. I have looked through her registries trying to get a feel for her colors and style and she had some linen pillows in the green above. I found this frame for $3.00 so I might give it to her in a mix of other items.

I got this frame for my turquoise half bath. I needed something to hang over the towel bar. The rug under it is the bath mat. See how well it matches? The frame is a light green blue and the walls are bright blue turquoise so it coordinates well.

I got the boys a sport coat for $8! and the pants were $6.

Ralph Lauren shorts for $11

Ralph Lauren shirt $10 and the sweater was $60 on sale for $18. They are small, though so I am going to take the sweaters back. They are really tight and then the sleeves are too long so they just do not fit right and it wouldn't work to just buy a larger size. Okay, I have got to go pack and get out the door. I am taking someone with me and can't be late.

My necklace set

I forgot about this set I got at Goodies- for $7.00. It will look cute with a red Amy Butler print skirt.

New Jacket

Goodies is going out of business so we ran in on Saturday. I found this jacket that was $40 on sale for $8.00. It looks more royal blue in the photo but it is really teal. I also found some size 1 Duck Head shorts and jeans for my daughter, they were on sale for around $10 but were originally $40. It is so hard to find anything that I like and anything to fit little Miss Size 1 so I was happy to find some things.

Target toys are 75% off

I heard that on the 15th they would mark down the toys to 75% off so I made a trip yesterday to see if I could get my Christmas shopping done. It is already the 15th of January and I had not even begun:) I AM JUST JOKING. But, I did start on my Christmas shopping. Good thing that we have a very big attic. This was $49.99 marked down to $12.48. These all are HUGE boxes of toys, although it is hard to tell in the photos.
For our 6 year old 2nd cousin- this was $29.99 marked down to $7.48.

For same kid- we will give one on his birthday and one at Christmas. This was $39.99 marked down to $9.98.
This is for our gift box. I like to find things for the birthday parties we are invited to throughout the year. It was $15.97 marked down to $3.94.

I got three of these. I may give them to our now 18 month old girl and boy 2nd cousins or may put them in our Operation Christmas Child boxes. They were $5 marked to $1.25. It has a mat to play on.
This is how I try to buy our gifts throughout the year. I budget $75 a month and if I don't use it I put it into an account that builds until I need it. I really spend more than $75 a month with all 5 kids but cannot make our real budget on paper work if I increase that amount. I would never charge anything ,but throughout the year we get overtime or gift money and I have that to use and honestly spend a little more than $100 a month when you divide my last years spending by 12. I hope to do better this year and make most gifts. I am really ready to sew and craft again. Last year we did a lot of gift cards for ease of going insane.
