Master bath: before and after

If you are visiting from Metamorphasis Monday- Welcome! You can see more before and afters at Between Naps on the Porch.

Imagine... everytime you potty or bathe having millions of these looking at you. Do you see it? It is bugs ready to fly on you... very happy smiling bugs. My husband sees monkies with a headdress on but I have to really squinch my eyes for that one. Can you see both images? Whatever! It all just looks like a paper towel print on your wall. Glad the 90's are over. The people left us all their window treatments. I know I am making you all so jealous. I don't have a clue why they put the shutters only 3/4 of the way up the window. Every piece of hardware in the house looked like Medieval swords and stuff and then they had lacy and fancy curtains. The styles just don't go together.

Seashell shaped light fixture anyone?

And, the best feature of all- green carpet in the bathroom! It should be against the law to put carpet in a bathroom- that is just gross!

Now, I am so excited to show you the almost finished, but needs to be accessorized bath. We painted, took down the wall mirror and added two framed mirrors, tiled the floor, new fixtures, and I am working on curtains and getting towel bars and toilet paper holders.

Still to do- fill in the phone jack. Another weird feature.... I need a phone in the toilet room. Anyone?
We are adding this tile border in the doorway to the master bedroom and then the doorway to the closet. It is not grouted yet and the carpet is not put down.

  4. Wow! I love what you have done. I don't know why anyone ever thought carpet in a bathroom was a good idea. I didn't see it mentioned, but surely that is a new vanity. Do you mind sharing its source?

  5. Anon- we bought the vanity at Costco. I never saw it online. I kept looking at it when we went in and was just planning on painting the cabinets we had black- then we were in there and they had $150 off and it was only $650 so I did puppy dog eyes at my husband. I LOVE it!

  17. Did you paint over the wallpaper? And if so how did you prep it? It looks to die for, and is an inspiration to get started on mine....Molly

  18. Molly- We did take down the paper. I fill a spray bottle with HOT water and spray a section. I let it sit a minute and then it will come off easier. Our paper is thick on the outside so we would pull the top layer off and it would leave the backing. I sprayed the backing again and it will come right off in large sheets. My walls were still covered with glue so I took a washcloth and wet it with hot water and sprayed the wall and used the washcloth to wipe the wall. I kept rinsing the rag out and rewiping. We painted right onto the sheetrock- it doesn't have the orange peel on the wall. I did use a more textured roller instead of a flat roller- just one with more nap. If it is super flat(the orange peel gives walls a texture) all of the imperfections show a lot more, so you want to create a little texture.

Thank you all for the sweet comments. I find myself going to stare at it.

  19. Excellent job! Love it all. Is the vanity new or did you rework the old one and paint it? I don't think you mentioned it (or did I miss it?). Anyway, fabu!!

  20. redsoxmom- yes, the vanity is new- sorry, when I was posting it I was tired by the time all the photos loaded:) We bought it at Costco. It was not online because I was looking for a stock photo at the time. It was origionally $800 but they offered a $150 coupon in their coupon booklet that they mail to customers. I thought it was worth the investment to upgrade our bath.
